INFOCIMA Nº 50 – FEBRUARY 2025

The Smile of the Month:
Roger Zarabia
My name is Roger and I am 17 years old. I came to CIMA because I had problems at home, I didn’t go to school and I spent a lot of time on the street. It was my aunt who told my mom about this place, and thanks to that, she made the decision to bring me. When I arrived, my first impression was that CIMA was a quiet place, with a lot of freedom, and that gave me confidence. At first I didn’t know anyone, but little by little I made friends and received the support of the tutors, who welcomed me with great affection. During these months, I have learned many valuable things in the workshops: music, painting on fabric and work on the farm, among others. However, the workshop that I liked the most was computing, where I discovered design and other skills that I found fascinating. Now, after 10 months at CIMA, I see a big change in my life. I feel more responsible and with new tools for my future. I am deeply grateful to CIMA and to Father Jean-Louis for giving me this opportunity to grow, learn and improve as a person.

Testimony of Lucas Regalado.- ExCIMA
Hello, my name is Lucas and I am a former student of the CIMA home. I arrived at CIMA on January 3, 2013, like many other colleagues, with behavioral problems. From day one, the home helped me overcome those difficulties, providing me with the support of teachers and tutors who, with patience and dedication, taught me fundamental values to reintegrate into society as a responsible young person. Everything I learned at CIMA has been key to my personal growth. Today, I apply those learnings in my daily life, both at work and in society. I am deeply grateful to Father Jean-Louis Level for guiding us through this process and helping us become better people. Thanks to CIMA, today I am a good man.

Testimonial of Patricia – collaborator
Ever since I joined CIMA as a tutor and volunteer in psychology, I knew it would be a transformative experience, but I didn’t imagine the impact it would have on me. Working with children has been a challenge and a blessing. Each of them has a story marked by adversity, but also by an impressive resilience. At CIMA, the work is multidisciplinary, with a team that seeks to empower minors, providing them with tools to face life with autonomy and hope. It is not about changing their past, but about strengthening them for their future. For many, CIMA represents the family they never had. I have seen how they turn to Father Jean-Louis and other members of the community for guidance and affection. It is touching to see former CIMA return with gratitude, connecting even from abroad to remain part of the home that welcomed them. Throughout this time, I have known difficult stories and have understood the weight of growing up without a family present. However, what amazes me the most is her ability to continue playing, laughing and finding beauty in the everyday, showing that even in adversity there is room for tenderness and hope. CIMA is not just a house, it is a home where each person, from children to collaborators and volunteers, is part of something bigger. Here, every corner has life, history and learning. When I arrived, I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but I found love in every smile, mischief, and accomplishment. The children have taught me to value what I have and to live with gratitude. I’ve been reminded that the real impact is not in changing the entire world, but in transforming lives, one at a time. Education will be your most powerful tool to reach your full potential and build a better future.

English Course at CIMA: Opening Doors to the Future
From March to December, high school kids at CIMA have the opportunity to learn English thanks to classes taught by volunteer teacher Kersthin Nicole, who joined our team in 2024. In previous years, other volunteers carried out this important work, and today we continue to bet on the teaching of English as a key tool for the future of our young people. With a dynamic and participatory approach, the classes allow students to improve their understanding and expression in the language, strengthening their confidence and providing them with new academic and work opportunities. In addition, this learning process fosters essential values such as discipline and perseverance. We deeply appreciate the commitment of Kersthin Nicole, whose effort and dedication are fundamental to the growth of our young people. We are convinced that this course will continue to open doors and provide new opportunities to those who are part of CIMA. Let’s keep learning together!
