INFOCIMA Nº 31 – JULY 2023
The smile of the month:
Vaggner Bryan Mafaldo
Hello, my name is Bryan and I am 15 years old. I joined CIMA in September 2022 because of bad behaviors, and all changed when I arrived at CIMA. Since my arrival, I have felt love, warmth and welcome. Of all the workshops, I prefer the technical initiation because I learn how to weld, place tubes and multiple other things. The tutor and teacher are very involved in my learning. I like it when I participate in the various activities with volunteers who teach me their cultures and their languages. I thank all the people who support this organization. Thank you very much CIMA.
Ex-CIMA Testimonial:
Rafael Carbajal
I’m Rafael, I was born in Arequipa. There were problems in my family and I tried drugs at a very early age. My parents passed away and my siblings went to different places: my sister went to Tacna; my brother went to Arica and I was left alone. I arrived at CIMA mid 1990s led by a policeman who found me on the streets of Lima, I was 10 years old. I stayed at CIMA until 1998, and felt like I was in a family. The teachers and tutors treated me with affection and Father Jean-Louis, to this day, is like a father to me.
Collaborator Testimonial:
Eduardo Candela, psychologist
My experience as a person and as a psychologist at CIMA has been deeply impactful. Every day I have the privilege of witnessing the unwavering faith of these children and youth. Through individual and group therapies, I can see how they heal the deep emotional wounds of their early childhood. Little by little, they rebuild their sense of identity and confidence. It is rewarding to be part of their healing process and see how they grow and overcome their problems in a safe and loving environment. Feeling loved, valued and oriented, these children and young people eventually develop a great spirit and determination. Their future is a unique challenge and I am sure that most of them will achieve a happy and successful life.
Workshops and activities:
The music workshop as a therapeutic activity.
In the music workshop, students learn various pieces of music, practicing them again and again, until they master them: various skills and values are developed. • Mental skills: creativity, concentration, language, information retention and facilitates the learning of a new language. • Social skills: teamwork, interpersonal relationships and scene management. • Values: discipline, order, responsibility, willpower and perseverance. The teacher guides the children and adolescents by showing them how their skills are progressing and helping them to understand and value their achievements. At CIMA, music is a great therapeutic ally.
