INFOCIMA Nº 42 – JUNE 2024

The smile of the month

Miyashiro Santiago

My name is Miyashiro, I’m 13 years old. Before I came to CIMA, I had a lot of problems at home, due to my mom’s delicate health. When I arrived, I was very well received, although at first I knew nothing about what they did here. After a month, I got used to the cleaning routines and workshops.
Now I’m very good at CIMA. In addition to participating in all the workshops and activities, I can also continue studying. I had the opportunity to go out for my mom’s birthday, which was very special for me. Two months after arriving, I met the tutor Miguel, who I liked very well and has helped me a lot.
The workshop that I like the most at CIMA is the painting on fabric. I love being able to express my creativity and learn new things. I am very grateful for everything CIMA does for me and for all the support they give me.

Testimony of Cristhian Figueroa – ExCIMA.

My name is Cristhian. I came to CIMA when I was 16 years old. The reason was because he had behavioral problems: he spent too much time on the street and had stopped attending school. From the get-go, CIMA provided me with a supportive and understanding environment that helped me rediscover the right path. At first, adapting wasn’t easy, but over time, I began to appreciate all that CIMA had to offer. The tutors and staff in general, were always there to guide me. They taught me important values and provided me with the tools I needed to change my life. The way of life and discipline at CIMA helped me to regain the habit of studying and to actively participate in the workshops and activities.
My time at CIMA was amazing and gave me the opportunity to share unforgettable moments with our tutors, peers and friends from home. These moments are the best memories of my adolescence. Thanks to CIMA, I changed a lot and managed to focus on a better future.
My favorite workshop was always the farm, where we spent precious moments with Professor Sebastian. I learned a lot about animal care and the importance of responsibility. These moments on the farm not only taught me practical skills, but also helped me develop a sense of community and cooperation.
I am very grateful for all the support and teachings I received during my time at CIMA.

Testimony of Dominic Turcotte, a volunteer from Canada.

Here in the small town of CIMA, I was warmly welcomed by both the staff and the boys. During this great two-month experience, I was able to help these children in different ways. In addition, we shared many very entertaining moments.
I was so happy to have created beautiful personal connections with the people at CIMA. I’m also happy to have had the opportunity to share my joie de vivre and positivity. I am very grateful to Jean-Louis and his team for giving me the opportunity to live beautiful moments. I am convinced that the members of the CIMA family appreciated my positive presence, as I appreciated their friendship and love. Thank you all very much. They will remain in my heart forever.

Celebration of CIMA’s 34th anniversary

On Sunday, June 23, CIMA celebrated its 34th anniversary with a vibrant day full of activities and emotions. It was a special day that brought our community together.
The celebration began with a solemn Mass officiated by Father Luis Luna, Father Alberto Lara, Father Abad Martínez, and Father Hermes, of the Missionaries of the Holy Apostles. They were also accompanied by novices from Indonesia. This ceremony was a time of reflection and gratitude, marking the beginning of a day full of meaningful activities.
In addition, we had the honor of hosting many friends and benefactors from CIMA. They shared with us this special date and demonstrated their continued support for our mission.
The event featured the participation of prominent artists who delighted all those present:
• Singer Jehude opened the celebration with his powerful voice.
• The talented Juan David, a former CIMA, fascinated everyone with his charisma and acting. Juan David is a professional clown and magician.
• The rock band Flama Cieneguilla offered us several very beautiful songs with a lot of brilliance. Singer Harnold Marin surprised us by singing a rock version of CIMA’s anthem.
• Our guys from CIMA’s musical group, Wayra Marka, also took the stage and showed off their incredible musical talent. They left an excellent impression on all the attendees.
• In addition, a group of children from CIMA presented the traditional dance “Shacshas de Huaraz”. Their performance highlighted our rich cultural heritage. They were a sign of the will to keep our traditions alive.
At 4 p.m., we held the long-awaited anniversary raffle, an event that added excitement and expectation to the day. Participants eagerly awaited the results, and the raffle was a great success, contributing to the celebration in a significant way.
The celebration was not only a moment of celebration, but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to young people. It was a day to recognize the achievements made and look to the future with hope and determination.
We thank everyone who made this anniversary an unforgettable celebration.
Together, we will continue to work to provide children and teens with a welcoming and safe home. In this way we will be helping to build a better future.
