INFOCIMA Nº 53 – MAY 2025

The Smile of the Month:
Jonathan De La Cruz
Hello, my name is Jonathan, I am 14 years old. I came to CIMA because I let myself be carried away by bad friendships, seeking refuge on the internet. I learned negative things, like stealing, and spending nights on the street, causing much suffering to my mother.
One day, she decided to bring me to CIMA. The educator Dina interviewed me and then I entered pavilion B1. At first it was very difficult for me to adapt, but as the days went by and thanks to the support of my tutor, I changed little by little.
Now I feel good, I am more responsible and it is no longer difficult for me to fulfill my tasks. Now, I focus on my studies and thank God for this change, and also Father Jean-Louis for receiving me in his home at CIMA.

Testimony of Geremy Sangronis– ExCIMA
Hello, my name is Geremy and I am from Venezuela. I came to CIMA thanks to a friend, because I was lost, living on the streets. I didn’t follow orders, went to parties, smoked, fought, drank and disobeyed my mother and grandmother. Although they spoke to me for my sake, I did not listen. I felt superior.
I liked being out of the house and started spending more time on the streets at 14, doing inappropriate things for my age; that’s when I first tried drugs, it became a obsession and today I deeply regret having done it.
I came to CIMA when I was 16 years old. At first, I didn’t like it and it was difficult for me to adapt. But I met my first tutor, Leandro, and I liked him very much. I started to get involved in the fabric painting workshop, I met the teachers, and little by little I felt part of CIMA, and most of all, liked to feel that way.
Here I learned to be more responsible, to live better with my classmates, to form new habits that led me to be a better person. I started to think more about my future. I also learned to share and understand that making mistakes is okay, as long as you recognize your mistakes and learn from them.
CIMA taught me not to give up when I fall: I have to get up, move on and face life with maturity.

Testimonial of volunteers
We are Christian and Monique, volunteers from Belgium.
We have come to Peru to present our project to the children of CIMA.
This project revolves around play: teaching children new board games and making games (such as memories, checkers, solitaire…) using stones.
Before coming, what worried me most was not knowing Spanish. I was very afraid that I wouldn’t be able to communicate with the kids. However, from the first day of our stay, we were greeted with great warmth and kindness by Anne, and then by Father Jean-Louis, the director, the coordinator and other members of the team.
Anne was always there for us. The meeting with Rosa, the painting teacher, was a very pleasant discovery. With admirable calmness, she managed to give new energy to the activity of painting stones, encouraging children to create typical Peruvian motifs. The boys were very attentive, eager to learn, and they gave us all their love.
We want to thank you for all this time full of happiness.

We celebrate Mother’s Day at CIMA
During the month of May at CIMA, we paid tribute to all mothers with a special celebration that filled our home with joy and gratitude. We recognized not only the mothers of our children, but also the collaborators and volunteers who day by day give their love and dedication to this great family.
As part of the celebration, we organized an emotional talent afternoon, where the children shared songs, poems and prepared presentations. In addition, gifts were given to collaborators and volunteers as a sign of recognition for their valuable work.
From CIMA, we deeply thank all mothers for their unconditional love, and for trusting us to accompany their children on this path of transformation.

News:
We celebrated Labor Day by sharing a fraternity lunch. The musicians of the Wayra Marka group entertained us with their beautiful music.
Visit of the Newton School: all students of the 3rd year of secondary school visited CIMA with their teachers and shaperones. They shared their time with the children playing soccer, and brought a lot of food. We were grateful for their visit, thank you!
There was a benefit concert for CIMA organized in Montreal by Zaïka, a Canadian singer. CIMA friends around the world could connect and watch the concert live. It was a great success and we are very grateful to Yves and Jessica (Zaïka). They have worked very hard to make this project a real success.
UNALM students organized a talk on pest management in agriculture.
We also had a national multi-hazard drill because there are many risks of earthquakes in Peru, and frequent tremors on the Peruvian coast. From time to time a drill is organized at the national level, to be ready in case of a strong earthquake.
