INFOCIMA Nº 30 JUNE 2023
The smile of the month
Jesús Cueva
Hello, my name is Jesus Cueva. I arrived at CIMA in June 2022. At CIMA I was able to learn many things and leave behind all my bad habits. Today I realize that I had wasted my time on the street. I feel better and I have overcome my problems. Now I am more orderly and responsible. I owe all this to Father Jean-Louis who welcomed me with great affection.
Testimony of Enrique, Ex-CIMA.
He lived lost on the street. My parents fought a lot at home. I didn’t know what to do and I ran away. A friend took me to CIMA and I stayed for a month, but I went back to the street. Some time later I met Father Jean-Louis who came to pick me and several other children in St. Martin’s Square. He gave us food and clothes. A short time passed and I escaped back to the street. My mom was desperately looking for me. He found me and I returned to CIMA; This time I stayed for a long time. I had permission to go out on Saturdays to see my family. After all, I liked staying at CIMA because there I learned to take charge of my life.
Testimony of Gauthier, volunteer
Hello, my name is Gauthier; I am 19 years old and I have been volunteering at CIMA since January 1, 2023. I arrived without knowing Spanish. The children welcomed me with open arms and were my teachers of good and bad words. I arrived at the beginning of the transformation of the hydroponics workshop into aquaponics, which I have been in charge of for several months. Since I want to be a cook, I work every morning in the kitchen to prepare lunch. I learned several simple dishes: “causa”, “arroz chaufa”, “carapulcra” and others. I also teach English on Tuesday mornings and some afternoons or evenings I help the children with math homework or other homework. During my last month at CIMA, with my partner Pablo, a German volunteer, we organized Olympics and various activities. All children and collaborators participated. This experience will be unforgettable; I gave my best and received twice as much. The daily contact with the children, the laughter and the shared sorrows will remain forever in my memory. CIMA is now more than a home for me, it’s a family.
Workshops and various activities:
Activities for the anniversary of CIMA
This year CIMA celebrated its 33 years of creation. Various sports activities and competitions were scheduled over a three-week period. On June 14 we celebrated internally with the collaborators and the children. On June 25 we celebrated with many guests, friends, benefactors and Ex CIMA. The program began with a Mass presided over by Father Jorge Mendiola MSA. An excellent show followed; guest artists and young people from CIMA performed many musical numbers, folk dances, etc. In addition, the former CIMA organized a football championship and had a great time. We offered a lunch to all visitors. Dishes prepared by some mothers were also sold, as well as objects created by our young people in the carpentry, painting on canvas, crafts and farm workshops. A bit of history: In June 1990, the first children were housed in the first CIMA location, in downtown Lima. On August 14 of the same year, CIMA was legally created. In September 1991 CIMA moved to Huarangal, district of Cieneguilla, thanks to Engineer Federico Jahncke who donated us a piece of land. In 1996, CIMA moved to another piece of land in Cieneguilla where the current infrastructure had been built. We have walked together for 33 years; many people, foundations and associations both in Peru and abroad have contributed to making CIMA a place where hope lives.

News:
Our friend Tito Figueroa visited us with a group of schoolchildren. They have brought many cleaning supplies and provisions. Their presence has been very positive and they plan to return. This day they shared games with the children of the home.
Yves d’Avignon and Jessica Charland, a couple from Quebec, came to CIMA as volunteers for a period of one week. His presence was extremely positive; They quickly gained the trust of children and employees. They left with many projects to help CIMA.
In Peru, the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul is a holiday. The State proclaimed holidays on both Thursday 29 and Friday 30.
