INFOCIMA Nº 34 – OCTOBER 2023

Smile of the Month

Dayron Ledesma

Hi, I’m Dayron, I’m 14 years old and I live in CIMA. I arrived at this wonderful place on Tuesday, March 29th and I really like the home, where I learn a lot of good things. I get along well with my classmates, my tutors and the workshop teachers: they are very good to all of us. I like being at CIMA, because I find time for myself. I reflect on my past misdeeds and disbeliefs, and think it is a good place for me to be now, and I should not miss the opportunities it offers me. At CIMA, I discovered skills I had, and now I know, such as the zampoña, or singing. I also play good basketball, and know how to grab a pickaxe and work wonders on the farm; how to mop the floors, sweep, do my laundry, etc. As time goes on, I now know that tutors see our problems and help us overcome them. Thanks to them, I am now a responsible, respectful, honest, honest boy, and I know that my tutors are preparing me for the future. Thank you, CIMA.

Testimony of Alejandro Torres, Ex-CIMA.

I came to CIMA alone, when I was 12 years old, because, as a child, I had a lot of problems. CIMA gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. My tutors treated me with respect, and I learned to respect them back. At CIMA, I received everything I didn’t have at home or while living on the streets. I learned to value things, to love my friends, and to respect tutors. Being part of CIMA was a very exciting experience. The best thing: my life took great steps ahead, and I am now who I am because of God and CIMA. Father Jean-Louis was a great person to me, and I am proud to be part of CIMA’s history. Thank you, CIMA and God bless.

Testimony of Jashua Saavedra – volunteer

Hello! My name is Jashua, I am 23 years old. I have been supporting CIMA as a volunteer for almost four years. This time inside the home has significantly impacted my life, both personally and professionally. I was very interested in learning about the methodology that promotes the reintegration of minors into society. I have seen how going through the various workshops, the children were growing. I can proudly say that I have been involved in the training of many of them. The wide range of workshops offered by CIMA allows children to develop their skills. This is one of the many reasons why children feel at home at CIMA. They forget what they experienced on the streets and go back to being children. I have supported in several areas and met great people: tutors, teachers and collaborators who dedicate their days to supporting these children. I hope that more people can learn about this project, its impact on society and add to the change. The first day I arrived at CIMA, I was told “the kids come first”. This phrase has made sense in different ways in my life. He has also guided my decisions within CIMA and in my other projects. I am especially grateful to Jorge and Father Jean-Louis, for their work in supporting the youth and children of Peru. I value the opportunities for change they have provided to hundreds of children.

Workshops and various activities:

Apiculture

CIMA has a bee-keeping workshop that gives children and teenagers the opportunity to learn about bee care and honey harvesting. This workshop not only promotes practical skills, but also encourages teamwork and caring for the environment. In addition, contact with nature and animals are known to have therapeutic benefits, promoting positive personal and emotional development. Moreover, beekeeping production such as honey becomes a source of income that contributes to an economically sustainable business for the household, while the participants build entrepreneurial skills.
